Paganism and Spirituality
Pagan, with a Capital P
Some people don’t even give Pagan, Wicca or Witch/ Witchcraft a capital letter any more. This bothers me.
Pagan is a title, a proper name for something, a title. When using English (the language is also title) we should capitalize the first letter of a word that is a title.
I know English language standards have slipped into non-importance for some people.… Read the rest
How to Make Your Own Book of Shadows
Your Book of Shadows (BoS) is personal. You can make the entire book yourself or buy a book, decorate it and then begin creating the contents of your own Book of Shadows. However you start the physical, actual book and however you decorate it – it’s what’s inside that counts.
A Book of Shadows can be for a coven, keeping the rules, rituals and history of the coven.… Read the rest
How to Create a Wiccan Shrine
The idea of the Wiccan shrine/ altar is to give yourself a real, physical connection to your spirituality and beliefs. Something you can reach out and touch, see, hear, taste and even smell. A Wiccan altar should appeal to your senses, be something you enjoy and give you a feeling of being connected to the Earth, nature, any deities you choose, and life itself.… Read the rest
What’s a Grimoire?
The Book of Shadows (BOS, for short) are the notes Pagans/ Witches/ Wiccans have made along their journey of life and learning.
A Grimoire is a book of magic, spells and techniques.
People don’t always know there is a difference. It’s a pretty slight difference. The Book of Shadows would be less scientific and contain personal thoughts.… Read the rest
Being a Solitary Witch (or Wiccan)
The solitary Witch, Wiccan or Pagan is alone by choice. There are many reasons for making this choice to be a Witch or Wiccan on your own. There are also lots of ways solitary Witches can share notes, talk and get new ideas from other Witches, when they want to.
Solitary Witches tend to be eclectic, they have their own vision and ideals for the path they follow.… Read the rest
How to Find and Join a Coven of Witches
It’s not hard to find and join a coven if you are sincere and understand the basics of Wicca/ Witchcraft. Some covens will be a tough sell, some won’t want new members (especially new Witches or solitary Witches) and some will just be close minded to anyone who doesn’t fit exactly with their beliefs.
There may be an initiation required before anyone new can participate or join.… Read the rest
Who is the Goddess?
I fixed the formatting but the capitalization is not mine. Some things are well meant but not well written in the practical sense. I found this on Facebook and wanted to keep it around for myself. I think the Crone should be about more than death and endings though, too much focus on that and not enough on wisdom and experience.… Read the rest
How to Start Your Own Coven
You may start a coven when there isn’t anything else local and yet there are many local Pagans. Or, you might start a new coven when it branches away from an established coven.
Starting a coven of your own is not something you should take on by yourself. Don’t try starting a coven of one, that’s not a coven, it’s a solitary.… Read the rest
How I Chose to be a Pagan Earth Witch
When I was about 20 I decided to look into religions. I knew the traditional Christian ways were not for me. I didn’t like they way these religions viewed women. I had just read a book where the women were put into isolation after having their period or giving birth, they were “unclean”. This was on top of growing up with the Adam and Eve mythology.… Read the rest
