Do It Yourself Spells and Magick
Spells and magick are a do it yourself project.
Real magick, real spells, are not something you can buy from someone who will make things happen for you overnight. That’s fiction. If someone had that kind of power why would they need to sell it? Wouldn’t they already have everything they need? Wouldn’t they give themselves everything they wanted, first?… Read the rest
What’s a Grimoire?
The Book of Shadows (BOS, for short) are the notes Pagans/ Witches/ Wiccans have made along their journey of life and learning.
A Grimoire is a book of magic, spells and techniques.
People don’t always know there is a difference. It’s a pretty slight difference. The Book of Shadows would be less scientific and contain personal thoughts.… Read the rest
What to Write About in Your Book of Shadows
This is not a full and complete list. For one thing, your Book of Shadows should be individual to you. For another thing, these are just ideas, like a writing prompt.
- Magic rules and principles.
- Your goals and what you wish to achieve.
- Dreams and other forms of divination you try.
- Drawings, doodles – any kind of illustration.
Book of Shadows
Originally written for The Crying Clown Zine (c. 1998)
The Book of Shadows could be called The Book of Life. Just the opposite of the Egyptian Book of the Dead (A series of spells to help the dead travel to and exist in the afterlife.) The Book of Shadows (BOS, for short) contains notes Wiccans have made along their journey of life and learning.… Read the rest
Witchcraft is Faith
“In spite of the many books which have been written on the subject in recent years, most people still seem to regard witchcraft as being mainly a matter of casting spells or gaining psychic powers. They find it difficult to regard it as being a religious faith.”

Rede Magick
Originally written for The Crying Clown Zine (c. 1998)
Tis the season for ghosts to haunt, vampires to suck (blood that is), werewolves to howl, and witches to fly. Or is it? Most people have put Santa and the Easter Bunny away with the broken decorations and the egg you didn’t find till the next year. Yet the idea of a witch in black from head to toe, with a black cat, casting her spells with the twitch of an eyebrow is still around.… Read the rest
Write a Witchy Spell
First of all, this is a writing exercise, something to try in order to start your flow of words. Although you can write a Witch spell, you should not believe writing and then saying the words will make things happen as you want them to. Real magic comes from inside of yourself. I think using a spell (especially one you have written yourself, one you have put your heart into and given time to consider each word) can bring about your own magic through focusing you fully on what it is you want.… Read the rest
I am Witch, Hear me Roar
One thing that bothers me about people who are into Paganism, particularly Wicca, are the trendy money spenders. Those who forget it’s an Earth religion, not a shopping religion. You do not need robes, goblets, altar tools, athames, jewelry, etc. Being a Witch isn’t about how much stuff you can stack up on an altar it’s about having an altar at all and appreciating and knowing what it’s there for.… Read the rest
Where the Wild Things Are: Can you Be Yourself and Be Pagan?
Being Pagan isn’t about putting on a show. It’s really a very personal thing, a choice you might keep to yourself forever or reveal to your family or friends. They call it coming out of the broom closet cause that’s kind of cute. But, you were never in a closet. Being Pagan is about being free, living with the Earth and respecting our history/ traditions.… Read the rest
